The ACLS online certification course includes two parts:

• Part 1 – A self-paced series of online training modules (3 – 8 hours based on experience)

• Part 2 – Skills practice at our facility (30 minutes – 1 hour)

• Apply the BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessments sequence for a systematic evaluation of adult patients
• Perform prompt, high-quality BLS, including prioritizing early chest compressions and integrating early AED use
• Recognize and perform early management of respiratory arrest
• Discuss early recognition and management of ACS and stroke, including appropriate disposition
• Recognize and perform early management of bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome
• Recognize and perform early management of cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation or transfer of care, including immediate post-cardiac arrest care
• Model effective communication as a member or leader of a high-performance team
• Evaluate resuscitative efforts during a cardiac arrest through continuous assessment of CPR quality, monitoring the patient’s physiologic response, and delivering real-time feedback to the team

• PALS uses a series of videos and simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation, and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.
• HeartCode® PALS is an online comprehensive eLearning program that uses eSimulation technology to allow students to assess and treat patients in virtual healthcare settings. In this environment, students apply their knowledge to real-time decision-making and skills development.
• To enter the course, students must complete the PALS Precourse Self-Assessment. Students are then presented with 12 in-hospital patient cases and a team dynamics lesson. Cases may be repeated as many times as necessary to pass. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%.

• You must be at least 16 years of age on the last day of the instructor course.
• Possesses current American Red Cross basic-level certification or equivalent certification (see Red Cross Learning Center for equivalency chart).
• Has successfully completed the online Introduction to the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/ AED Instructor Course prior to the Precourse Skills Session (This will be emailed to you directly from the Red Cross 1-2 business days after your registration).
• Has obtained all instructor and participant materials before attending the first session of the instructor course (all materials are provided in your training confirmation email).

• After completing the course, instructor candidates will be able to: 
• Exhibit the characteristics required of an American Red Cross representative and role model.
• Follow the directives and procedures related to the conduct and administration of American Red Cross courses, including the Instructor Agreement and Code of Conduct.
• Conduct courses in a manner that helps participants to stay engaged in the learning process and meet course objectives.
• Perform applicable first aid, CPR and AED skills to the standard, at instructor-level skill proficiency.
• Plan for and ensure instructor candidates’ health and safety during training.
