South Florida Health Care Institute prides itself in offering AHA-Certified Training courses like Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) to many healthcare professionals who are utilizing their skills to save the lives of others in the healthcare industry. As medical professionals and first responders must be prepared to react in these critical situations, ACLS builds upon the foundation of Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, which continually emphasizes the criticality of high-quality CPR done right.

Additionally, this advanced course will highlight the importance of team dynamics and communication in recognizing and intervening in acute coronary syndrome (ACS), acute dysrhythmia, stroke, cardiopulmonary arrest symptoms, immediate post-cardiac arrest, and providing systems of care.

About Our Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

This Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course is created for healthcare professionals managing cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This is suitable for medical personnel in emergency medicine, emergency response, intensive care, critical care units such as paramedics, physicians, nurses, and other professionals who require an ACLS course completion criteria for certain job requirements.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Before you can enroll in this course, you will be required to complete an online ACLS Precourse Self-Assessment, which is available as part of our ACLS student website (access will be granted after purchasing the ACLS Provider Manual). You must score an overall of 70% and higher to be accepted into the course. Upon completing the requirements below, including achieving a score of 84% and above, students will receive an ACLS card on the same day that is valid for two years.

Upon the completion of the ACLS course, students should successfully be able to:

  • Recognize and perform early bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias management to prevent cardiac arrest and complicating resuscitation outcomes
  • Recognize and perform early respiratory arrest management
  • Recognize and perform early cardiac arrest management until termination of resuscitation efforts or transfer of care, inclusive of immediate post-cardiac-arrest care
  • Apply the BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessment sequence as part of a systematic evaluation of adult patients
  • Perform timely, high-quality BLS while prioritizing early chest compressions and integrating early automated external defibrillator (AED) use.
  • Demonstrate recognition and management of ACS and stroke, including appropriate disposition
  • Display effective team communication as a member or leader of a high-performance team
  • Recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance
  • Evaluate resuscitative efforts during a cardiac arrest through continuous assessment of CPR quality while monitoring the patient’s physiologic response and delivering real-time feedback to the team
  • Discuss how the use of a rapid response team or medical emergency team may improve patient outcomes
  • Define systems of care

Why Is Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Important

According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. In 2016, there were an estimated 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests cases, and 88% of people who suffered a cardiac arrest died. Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocols treat various cardiac conditions and emergencies such as cardiac arrest, myocardial infarction, and stroke. They are vital in the American Heart Association’s Chain of Survival and are crucial for increasing the patient’s chances of surviving a sudden and unexpected cardiac arrest.
