Intravenous (IV) therapy is integral in many medical procedures, with most hospitalized patients receiving it as part of their daily treatment. It delivers blood, fluids, and medication directly through the patient’s veins and is effective for those who require rapid delivery of drugs and other types of IV fluids. Therefore, it is important for licensed practical nurses (LPN), and registered nurses (RN) who require the training and skills, to perform these procedures competently and confidently for their patients. South Florida Health Care Institute is committed to making IV Therapy courses affordable and accessible to healthcare professionals without compromising quality.

About Our IV Therapy Course

South Florida Health Care Institute offers an innovative approach to the traditional 30-hour IV Therapy course required for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to take before administering intravenous therapy to their patients upon graduation. This course can also be taken by Registered Nurses (RN) who would like to enhance their IV insertion skills. Upon registering, each student will receive a unique link to access the online portion of our program. This online program consists of 8 modules with full motion graphics, videos, simulations, references, and critical thinking exercises that engage learners while incorporating considerations for various healthcare settings and patient populations. This program was also developed in alignment with the INS’ Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice to provide learners with the foundational knowledge of infusion therapy. Students will have lifetime access, so they may refer back and refresh their skills at any time.

What is the importance of an IV Therapy Course?

IV therapy is an integral part of many patients’ daily treatment. It is an effective way of administering medication rapidly in emergencies where the drug will need to be infused into the bloodstream directly. It is also ideal for dispensing medication gradually in controlled quantities for most patients. Alternatively, it can also be used to replenish nutrition and vitamin deficiencies in patients who may be bedridden and physically unable to consume food. Therefore, every nurse, who works in an acute inpatient setting, will have to be skillful in IV therapy to perform this procedure seamlessly.
