South Florida Health Care Institute offers an innovative approach to the traditional 30-hour IV Therapy course that is required for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to take before administering intravenous therapy to their patients upon graduation. This course can also be taken by Registered Nurses (RN) who would like to enhance their IV insertion skills. Upon registering, each student will receive a unique link to access the online portion of our program. This online program consists of 8 modules with full motion graphics, videos, simulations, references, and critical thinking exercises that engage learners while incorporating considerations for various healthcare settings and patient populations. This program was also developed in alignment with the INS' Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice to provide learners with the foundational knowledge of infusion therapy. Students will have lifetime access, so they may refer back and refresh their skills at any time.
Upon completion of this program, the clinician will be able to:
Implement infection prevention strategies while practicing infusion therapy.
Determine the most appropriate vascular access site and device for patients receiving infusion therapy.
Explain best practices for insertion and care of short peripheral catheters.

Describe methods for safe infusion medication and solution administration (e.g., continuous, intermittent, and intravenous push).
