A sudden cardiac arrest is a life-threatening medical emergency. When someone’s heart stops beating, the lack of oxygenated blood can result in brain damage in a span of a few minutes. It is crucial that you take immediate action in handling the situation. Time is critical. Their life depends on how quick your reaction is and how efficient you perform what is necessary to help them live to tell the tale.

You do not need to have a cape and supernatural powers to help your loved ones at home and the people in your community when a medical emergency happens. You can prepare yourself for an emergency no matter what setting when you know life-saving techniques and first aid.

Let us suppose you encounter a situation where someone collapses without warning and loses consciousness with no signs of breathing. Upon checking their pulse, you do not feel any beat. The person may have just experienced a sudden cardiac arrest.

For the motionless individual to increase their chance of survival, the first thing you need to do is to stay calm. Then exhaust all your efforts in performing CPR or cardiopulmonary resuscitation, especially if no one else is around. Within two minutes of performing CPR, immediately call 911 or the emergency medical help team in your area. Continue to perform CPR and check any signs of pulse and breathing while you wait for the emergency personnel to arrive.
