Tips for Staying Calm in Emergencies

Not everyone has the mental fortitude to stay calm and give orders during emergencies. Some of us end up screaming, dropping things, or worse, freezing. These are all normal responses and nothing to be ashamed of.

The good news is that the rest of us can learn the ability to stay calm during emergencies, and the South Florida Health Care Institute is here to discuss those with you:

  • Get educated.Your priority should be to know what to do during an emergency. The best way to do this is to get trained, whether it’s getting BLS training in Boca Raton, Florida, or basic first aid.
  • Learn to tune things out. Emergencies result in sensory overload and can get in the way of our focus. Practice tuning things out other than what you are focusing on. Try this tip out while undergoing CPR training in Boca Raton, Florida.
  • Breathe. In “fight or flight” instances, it is common to start breathing rapidly. You can control this by taking deep, steady breaths that come from your belly instead of your chest.
  • Don’t be afraid to break the rules. Social rules should be the least of your worries when it comes to responding to emergencies. Don’t hesitate to give orders to strangers or tear expensive clothing. You will see simulations in our BLS training in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
  • Take care of yourself. When getting your PALS certification in Boca Raton, Florida, our experts always remind our trainees to prioritize their health. Even after the emergency has been handled. Emergencies can cause prolonged stress and anxiety and can affect the quality of your life.

We hope these suggestions help. If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
